Journey's End

A yellow arrow, will never look the same in our mind's eyes...

Where does the journey end? It never end's says Joao ... at least as long as we're still breathing.

However, there is an end to this part of the journey. There is a place at the ocean, 90 kms from Santiago called Finistere (finis terre, the end of the world). That's where we set to end our journey, at least initially ...

Like any traveller knows, things change and evolve. Decisions are taken, the teritory changes, priorities change. What seemed important when home, becomes irrelevant. What was considered a given, becomes worth fighting for. For each one of us, the time away from our life partners and our children brought us closer to them. Closer to them and the realisation that they are central to our lives, our journeys, our ability to do everything else with energy, balance and purpose.

Once in Santiago, we decided that our finistere should be re-joining our families earlier. Sabin brought Cosmina over, Joao went to Faro to surprize his family. I took the long and strange way to Darmanesti in the Romanian mountains.

Moments of peace and love ...

While still in Santiago, and still completely overwhelmed by the emotions, a song kept ringing in my ears ... Annie Lennox - Into the West

Getting really close now (50kms)

Tomorrow we will get to Santiago. A whole range of thoughts and feelings fills me up.

It is now within an arm's reach.

This was a long trip, but it was yesterday, I thought, when we took the photo with kilometer 400...

I calm myself down, remembering that we still have a bit to walk, before reaching our final destination - Finistere, the end of the world, the place by the ocean where the sun never sets acording to the ancient Celtic druids.

Galicia, or the Shire

A night to remember

tonight was again the first night on the camino. This time because it was about humanity, comunion, singing, enjoying life, nature, mountains, beauty, my culture, my friend's culture, the hosting culture, spirituality, genuine human interaction, real people, doing their things their way. That's how I pictured the camino.

In Leon, deep in the camino

After almost 40km yesterday, we have arrived in Leon. This is the second 'oasis' of 'life as we knew it' on the camino (to read modern city life). Like in Burgos, we endulge ourselves in the simple pleasures of life: sleep in a nice bed with bed sheets (vs. sleeping bag), have breakfast at 10, tapas and rose for lunch in Bario Humido, and spa and massage for more than 3 hours in the afternoon, before hitting the streets of this amazing city, to take in the evening light, the people, the flavours of Castilla y Leon ...
